The petition

UPDATE: iPetitions has remove 'Province of China' from the listing for Taiwan.

iPetitions describes itself as a site which can be used to counter dictatorship. So why is it referring to a democratic country in terms demanded by a dictatorial government? iPetitions should refer to a free and democratic country according to the name its inhabitants prefer, not by the name imposed by an outside party.

Under its constitution, Taiwan is governed by the political entity "Republic of China". At no time has the "People's Republic of China" ever exercised sovereignty over this territory.

iPetitions should respect the wishes of the people of Taiwan by referring to it as "Taiwan" or the more formal "Taiwan, Republic of China". Anything else goes against that stated principles of iPetitions.
