With the planned iPad software update, Apple intend to remove the screen orientation lock switch on the side of the device, and turn it into a mute switch. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has stated that this will not be an option, and the consumer will have no choice. Many iPad owners use this switch daily since it is a convenient way to prevent the screen rotating when reading, browsing the web etc. This petition aims to show Apple that a significant number of users wish to retain the option of using the original functionality, and that sometimes the consumer DOES know what they want, not always Apple. As the owners of the device, we should have the option in the preferences to decide on the how that switch is used.
