Inverclyde Council has decided to close the Central Library in Greenock as a library and convert the building to offices at a cost of £3.6million. The library collections are to be moved to "new" premises on Wallace Place Greenock. This new location is smaller than the current Central Library. The reason cited for this move are problems with the levels of accessibility of the current central library. However these explanations make little sense when you consider that the issues about accessibility will also need to be addressed for any disabled workers who might find themselves based at the refurbished offices in the former library. The Central Library is a purpose built space and should be kept in use as a public building. It could and should be made more accessible in it's current location and kept as a wonderful public facility for all to enjoy. Please sign the petition to help fight this unnecessary library closure.
