| # | Name | Tell us why innocence matters to you |
|---|
Marie Fenton SSJ | It is most important to relook at the c ircumstances of the crime and the trial and look dispassionately at the evidence. Too many mistakes have occured in the past.
gerry farrant | Life is sacred for all people and we don't have the right to take anothers life.
Kathleen Pales, SSJ | Innocence does matter,
Sr. Mary Fineran | There is no physical evidence connecting Troy to the crime. Surely, we do not put innocent men to death!
Marie Lewis | A person's life matter to me. There is no sensible reason for death to be any part of a consideration for any punishment ever.
Rosemarie Lorenz | A person is innocent until proven guilty. An innocent person should have every opportunity to prove his innocence as it is a God given gift.
Anonymous | it's just not right to convict someone of something they did not do. if we let this go, we're accepting that the world can do whatever it wants to do us. we must fight this
Anonymous | Please allow this to be reheard.
Anne Regina Lannon | Because after resding about his case,I feel that he is.
Katherine Berland | There is no reason, when new evidence presents itself that indicates a person's innocence, to not allow a new trial. It is far worse for one innocent person to be imprisoned than for one hundred guilty men to go free. Troy Davis deserves a new trial, as does any person who has been convicted but has a compelling case for his innocence.
Liza Moffet | To kill someone for a crime he/she did not commit is not only morally reprehensible but goes against everything this country stands for. We must speak out for the innocent because one day we could be the one behind bars for a crime we did not commit.
Benjamin Dorsey | This is a country of laws, and not of men. Executing innocent people is not only a horrible miscarriage of justice, but it is also a violation of the principles we hold dear as Americans.
Aislinn Williams | To put it simply: if we are willing to knowingly convict the potentially innocent, then our justice system has no purpose, as it cannot comfort nor advocate for victims of crime.
Anonymous | Killing him make you the next one to die, cause you killed troy
Anonymous | Please hear Troy Davis' innocent case. Troy was falsely accused of the murder of Savannah Police Officer Mark MacPhail. Since then, with the support of his loving family, he has been struggling to vindicate himself. There was no murder weapon or DNA to test. There was no physical evidence connecting Troy to the crime
Connie Trainor, SSJ | I believe the death penalty should be abolished. It should never be used. To think that in our country an innocent person can be put to death for a crime he or she didn't commit is outrageous. It just doesn't make sense. Our justice system needs to be overhauled.
John Neavear | Honetsly, innocence isn't the issue for me. I don't think our government has the right to condemn anyone to state-sanctioned murder, no matter how 'bad' they are deemed to be. This country was founded on the cause of individual rights; killing someone is the ultimate defamation of that.
Thomas Carriere | A person must be found innocent unless ALL doubt has been removed. As a Christian, I believe that only God can find a person guilty.
Anonymous | Yes, often I feel that our laws punish the innocent and criminals go free. There is something to be desired in our justice system.
Anonymous | It is very important
hallie lund | Innocense matters for obvious reasons. The DAs of this country are more interested in their careers than they are in justice.
Carlos Aneiro | I am tired that this falsely moralistic system self appoints itself as the arbiter of justice and what it believes what should be best for other places in the world while it does not address its wrongdoings and transgressions such as this Case...
johanna mente | innocence matters because I believe justice matters.
Johanna Gedaka | Our human intelligence is limited; our judgments are colored by our ex-periences; often we let our experiences cloud decisions even when, as in this case, it results in injustice to another. Or justice system is flawed. Please consider options other than the death penalty in the case of Troy Davis.
virginia jenkins | Is anyone ever innocent? I believe not. I have not ever understood how anyone can take a life of another, especially a State in America. We teach it to be wrong to take another life by taking another life. The incident in Philadelphia where the police were beating on a man they had already hand and foot cuffed, and then banged his head seriously on the wagon befor taking him into custody. We teach that to hurt another is wrong by hurting that person.
Dolores Chepiga SSJ | To exec ute an innocent person is barbaric!
Megan Tyson | How could it not? Someone who is likely to be innocent has spent half his life in prison, and the least you could do is give him a fair trial before this innocent man may be sentenced to death. It's the only logically just thing to do.
Celeste Mokrzycki | I've read Troy's case and feel that he should be granted another trial. I am opposed to capital punishment.
beguide melanie | innocence matters simply because it is closely linked to the truth, the honnour of everyone who is responsible for what he or she has done and only that. Innocence matters cause the killing of one innocent man by a state is the same as the killing of the whole humanity. If we do not respect innocence then we cannot believe in any truth.
| 480 | melissa ogle | innocence does matter a great deal in any case especially for those who are going to die for something they know they didnt do. i dont know if this matters but you can say it cme from me because its how i feel on the whole death penalty thing. god said eye for an eye but i dont think he meant death for death. for those who really did do what they say they did i think a life sentence w/o parole is more appropriate because a day in spent in prison is more of a punishment than death. for those of you who have ever been to prison then you know exactly what i mean. innocence should matter a great deal and shame on the judge and all the lawyer who never took the time to examine the case properly. they were just lookin to blame someone. thank you

Pat Egan | THERE ARE TOO MANY ON DEATH ROW WHO SHOULD NOT BE THERE. I KNOW OF ONE WHO WAS EXECUTED AN LATER THE REAL PERSON ADMITTED THE KILLING ON HIS DEATH BED. liFE IS TOO PRECIOUS........KEEP IT
Regina Kropp | There is so much injustice in the court system. Innocent people have already been put to death. I do not want to see that again. Please re-examine the evidence. Thanks.
Marion Aherne | No person who has not committed the crime he/she's accused of should have to live on Death Row and then suffer death, when not guilty. I dis-approve of the Death Penalty in any circumstances!
Anonymous | Innocence matters becomes on the most fundamental level, an innocent person should not be led to his/her demise for the wrongdoing of another. Nothing can justify the condemnation/punishment of an innocent life. In the broader scope, the cherishing of innocence is what our country is supposedly founded on. Our justice system is to help protect the innocent. When someone innocent is sent to die, it is reflection of our country's abuse of justice. Of the tarnishment of our goals as a country that values justice.
Carol Beevers | Too many innocent people have been put to death. Life is too precious to disregard the lack of physical evidence and the false or inaccurate testimony of some of the witnesses. Troy's case deserves to be heard again.
Margaret McLaughlin | In a country founded on freedom, I feel it is the right and priviledge of each citizen to be given every opportunity to receive a just trail and be awarded justice.
Margaret Boyle | Their rights are protected in our Constitutions.
Carl Weibel | Troy Davis was convicted with no physical evidence whatsoever. I think there is a very strong possibility that this man was falsely convicted and an innocent man may be in danger of being executed. Executing an innocent man does not make anybody safer, and it should not be allowed to happen under any circumstances.
Roger Noti | We may not judge anybody without having enough proof of his deed. The death penalty does not allow us to make any corrections after its realisation. Thus I do not agree on such methods.
Anonymous | The government doesn't have the right to play God, especially when it's with the life of an innocent man.
DAniela Muggia | It matters because none should pay for something another did. And even if one killed another, a so called "civilised" country is not ,for that reason, authorised to do the same, killing the murder.
Joan M. Schullian | I believe in truth. It is important and necessary that our legal systems in the United States work toward justice and truth. Every person has basic human rights. If Troy Davis is innocent, the state of Georgia has the responsibility to give him a just trial. The legal system is not a game of winning and losing. It is a system of truth and justice for all.
Katja Reuter | Troy A. Davis needs a new trial. There are too many contradictions, doubts and injustices. Innocence matters. Be rational and see the injustice.
joel c koury | Having worked for almost 20 years as an attorney, I have witnessed how random the entire system truly is as any system designed by people would be. The idea that someone should live or die because the drew a bad judge, prosecutor, defense attorney or juror is just wrong. And when you couple that with the idea that an innocent person may be executed, these errors are compounded. After all if an innocent person is executed for a crime, their are now two victims and the killer is still free.
Ellen Poist | Why should anyone suffer for someone else's mistake?
Jane Carter | Everyone deserves the right to a fair trial and to a justice system that does not discriminate against you on the grounds of race or class.
Mary Jane Boyce | Innocence is important because deep within each of us there is the need for what is right. Respecting innocence is the right thing to do.
Anonymous | Justice is important to me. Anyone wrongly accused orr accused without sufficient evidence should not be punished -- certainly not receive the death penalty. All efforts shoyuld be made to clear the name of the innocent as well as to bring the guilty to justice. Thank you.
Perrye Peters | Too many witnesses have recanted plus lack of DNA.....not a good enough reasons to take a man's life.
lauren fox | case that could change society for further times
