Comments: Megan's Law only aggravates the opportunities for ex-offenders. If you wish to truely make things right Megan's Law must be part of this. There is not one proven case where Megan's Law has saved any child from harm. It is based on fear and lies about recidivism. The largest percentage of those serving time for crimes that Megan's Law requires registation are first time offenders.

Comments: THE SYSTEM THE UNITED STATES RUNS BY NOW DOES NOT REHABILATE THE OFFENDER. IT MERELY SETS THEM UP FOR FAILURE FOR THE REMANDER OF THEIR LIFE. IT IS A MARK FOR LIFE WITH NO CHANCE OF JUSTIFACATION OR RECTIFACATION. NO FAIR!

Comments: I have two sons who have gone to prison. The older one has gone to college to be an electrican. He still has trouble getting credit or getting jobs because of his past. The younger one did just like you said. No one would give him a chance at a job so he ended up going back to prison. He's due to get out in November. I'm afraid we'll be going through all this again.

Comments: I agree with alot of what you said except for the part about expunging a felony conviction. I think that that should depend on what that felony was. Other than that I think you are rigth and it is hard to get back on track after prison (I can only imagine). -Margo

Comments: I agree 150% with you. The next question is what can we do to help this situation. Having brothers, husbands, boyfriends who are felones. Do they not deserve to have a decent life of being able to care for themselves and their families Where are the programs that help with retraining them in crime free living without the repeat humiliation that they were once incarcerated. Sometimes that environment is more forgiving than the free world.

Comments: I believe that felony convictions such as rape, sex crimes, or murder should not be expunged, but I believe that people change we all make mistakes. We reach points of problems and make the wrong decisions which put us in places we would not of normally have been. I believe a person should be given their right to vote and a honest chance at life after they have served their time.

Comments: The court system have treated blacks unfairly for years. We have too many blacks that is serving time that should not be there. I have wittness this in Wilson, NC. Blacks are getting sentences higher rated than white. I have experienced days when every black got time and every white got probation. Judge Frank Brown ,Edgecomb county. There should be something a community can do to stop this kind of behavior. Every person should be treated equal. It not about your skin, It about the person.

Comments: You are so right! Felons should be given a chance to live after their debt has been paid to society, after serving his sentence. It is cruel and inhumane, because most people treat their favorite animal better. The people who are sitting up there making the decisions have no clue what a problem that they are creating! They know that the already scarred man will come out of prison with renewed hope of changing their lives, becoming an asset to society, but the system wears them down, breaks them to the point that all hope for a future is out of reach. They finally give up, with no hope and sometimes no support, they return to the street to become a part of the degenerate society they feel they have to belong to. I weep for all of them, including my own son, who is trying to live with a felony. Yet, they only think of keeping our prisons a revolving door so the systems works as they have designed it. It is not a mistake at all. It has been carefully planned to be this way for years. The black man(majority) has been targeted for many years and with continued majority incarceration, they don't need the old method of slavery. A new form of slavery is now well under way. They call it legal!!!!

Comments: My niece will be released in two years. She was 19 years old and did something really stupid. She knows it....now.... and is looking forward to getting out and getting on with her life. She wants to go back to college but faces a long up hill battle. From What I have been reading, she is not going to have an easy time of it when she gets out. While I do not agree that all felony convictions should be expunged, there are many that could be.

Comments: The fact is that every person that is/was born are a sinner and every person are voilations of laws. However, some are caught, but most are not. Some of the worst ciminals are the ones that put people in jail.
