The petition

Currently at Indian River Central School in Philadelphia, NY, the students are given the opportunity to play a musical instrument in the fifth grade. For next year's budget proposal, some board members are in favor of revoking this opportunity.
The many benefits children receive from this area of education will be taken. For example, by introducing music at an early age, it increases memory and coordination, raises your IQ and self confidence, improves your circulation and heart rate, and the list goes on.
There is a wealth of information and statistics on the benefits of music education, especially in young children where it can bring core values. I, as a parent, welcome any education that helps me teach my children these important lessons.
Adjusting school taxes may be one option for saving the music program. Our school's tax rate is the lowest in the county. I am a mother of seven with an average income, and a small increase to ensure that our children will not suffer such repercussions is definitely worthwhile.
Without music, I know my children would not be as well rounded as they are. Please research the benefits, and sign this petition. Tell a friend and get involved. Our children need your support.
