Comments: I agree with the contents above. We in CSIR are facing a lot of problems for filling patents as Indian Patent Office is not on line, with its data bases. It is difficult to study the prior art information from these offices. Also we request steps may be taken to process the back log at the earliest. Intellectual management should be done more intelligently and scientifically. Imprortance of this is not recognised by the governement. Specially in the traditional knowledge where the knowledge holders are illiterate, they have been exploited by others.

Comments: It is true that we have come across several such situations where the Indian patent offices are either not very cooperative for providing even sharable data or they are not well equipped to mine the data at the time of requirement.

Comments: This should be done on a priority basis. While many of the government departments are actually taking full advantage of ithe Internet, I don't see any reason why the Patent Office should be reluctant to post their decisions on-line.

Comments: Hope this will be one of the most welcoming steps from the government side towards the economic growth of the country. I am sure this step will benefit IPO as well as other government machineries from the hassle of tackling RTI applications which is cumbersome and time consuming even though response time is stipulated within the RTI Act, in addition to the large scale public convenience. However, it is equally important to provide an accurate and useful information database unlike the trademark database, which is not updated regularly and provided without complete information and accuracy at the same time imposing further burden on the users and most of the time not to be of any practical use.

Comments: The creation of a comprehensive electronic Indian patent database, including Indian Patent Office decisions, would be most helpful to all members of the public and would greatly enhance the effectiveness of the Indian patent and trade mark system. SAP Labs India Pvt. Ltd. strongly supports the Government of India, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, and the Office of the Controller General of Patents Designs and Trade Marks in this effort. Comments: It is critical that we maintain comprehensive databases to track the progress of the Indian economy, and that these be made public. This is symptomatic of all India related databases including elementary things like the decennial Census and the 5-year economic census. It's a nightmare obtaining any useful data to conduct any kind of meaningful research. Data published in static pre-tablulated reports is of no use when one would want to conduct analysis involving flexibility in cross-tabulations etc. Please provide us with DATA!! You just have to look at the US Census website for pointers. In fact please check out the USPTO website.

Comments: Availability of reliable Patent database and opposition decisions is must, if india is serious about Intellectual property. Due to lack of good patent database, one has to run from post to pillar to get the right information.
