His Excellency the Ambassador Dr. S. Jaishankar Esq., of India to China,
Indian Embassy,
Beijing, China.

Dear Sir,

The undersigned are the parents of the Indian Embassy School children; collectively and individually write this petition to show serious concern over the decision to close the school in 6th June 2011. We and our children are heartbroken and felt totally neglected by this horrendous news about closing the school.

It is with great disappointment that we write this letter and would like to bring to your Excellency’s attention that, the decision taken to close the school, has not only made many Indian communities in Beijing left without other options for their children’s education but also members of other foreign communities. All of us not only value but also put our trust in the Indian Education System and Curriculum by opting to send our children to receive Indian education.

There are no other institutions in Beijing which offers, at an affordable price, the Indian standard of education, values and culture that our children need and must have. It is because of these reasons some of us have relocated to Beijing from other cities. Parents of students who had just joined Indian school this Academic year (August, 2010) are sadden by the fact that when applied and admitted to IES , it was not communicated to them that the school will be closed for good after just one year. A year is almost the time for these young children to adjust to the new school environment, make friends and get to know their teachers.

Over the 46 years the India Embassy School was providing excellent education for our children while they were living in China. We understand that the school overcame many difficulties in the past and heroically resolved all the hurdles faced by the political, financial, and personnel problems. We are even more confused as to why such a negative decision has to be made ,when the relationship between India & China is at its best, owing to the untiring diplomatic efforts of the your Excellency, who has opined that more and more Indian families are moving to China and noticeably to Beijing.

We the undersigned has appointed 5 representatives and kindly request a meeting with His Excellency to present our reasons and the importance of keeping the school open to educate our children.

Yours sincerely,
