According to an AIDS.gov article, titled “HIV in the USA,”more than 139 people are diagnosed with HIV everyday. Despite the CDC’s recommendations, only 20% of people get tested (CDC 2013). Why is this virus still permeating through our society at such an alarming rate? It’s because, there is a dangerous trend of indifference in our society. We need to do whatever we can to eradicate the stigma surrounding HIV testing and get people to make the responsible choice of getting tested at least once every year—or every 6 months, if they engage in risky behavior. Our University can start this process. GW needs to promote frequent testing around campus.
