After chatting with some friends from various countries around the world, it appears Ontario is far behind the World in terms of minimum vacations days. In Ontario, the standard is 2 work weeks of vacation, that equates to 10 days +10 public holidays Let's take a look at several other countries and their minimums. FRANCE: 5 weeks + 2 weeks of RTT (Reduction du Temps de Travail, in English : Reduction of Working Time) = 7 weeks. The most significant vacation time of any country in the world. GERMANY: 4 weeks (24 "workable" days, i.e. Mo to Sa, even if the working week is Mo to Fri), plus 9 to 13 bank holidays UK 20 calendar days, plus 8 bank holidays FINLAND 35 days An argument against more vacation days for employees is a loss of revenue and productivity for employers. However, studies have shown that employees who are allotted more vacation time perform better when they are at work, this increasing productivity and performance. Let's all step up and contact your MPP and demand an increase. click on the link below to find out who your MPP is and their email addresses. http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/members/members_current.do Cheers, David.
