We need to promote scientific literacy, not just facts and concepts, but also the scientific process.Critical thinking skills, understanding how ideas are investigated and analyzed, is perhaps the most important skill we can give to our kids and the next generation of scientists, engineers, teachers, and community leaders.

First, the Greenbelt City Council should take action to increase support for activities and events with a mission to improve scientific and technology literacy among all members of our community.

1. Fully fund the school grant budget requested by the Advisory Committee on Education.

2. Direct ACE to accept grant proposals from non-profit groups representing home school students.

3. Fully fund the grant requests of non-profit contribution groups that support community activities and events related to science and technology.

Second, the Greenbelt City Council should take action to develop a program to promote scientific and technology literacy.

1. Fund the Recreations Department to make plans for a future Science and Technology Program.

2. Create an Advisory Committee on Science and Technology.

Third, the Greenbelt City Council should develop a strategy to attract and support entrepreneurs, start-ups, and businesses in science and technology

1. Promote support of CR-7-2014 of the County Council that established a Science and Technology Business District centered on Greenbelt.

2. Develop a similar program of expedited review and approval process for qualified projects, and provide tax incentives for qualified businesses.
