WHEREAS, I desire for Zionsville Community Schools to continue providing a great, and not just "good enough" education to all of its students; WHEREAS, even as Zionsville Community Schools’ student population has grown from fewer than 5,400 students in 2008 to more than 5,800 students in 2012, base per pupil funding has gone from nearly $5,800 per pupil to less than $5,200 per pupil; WHEREAS, Zionsville Community Schools now receives the lowest target revenue per pupil of any public school corporation in Indiana; WHEREAS, the Indiana Property Tax Cap Amendment of 2010 has resulted in, on average, thousands of dollars less per year in property taxes paid per household than was paid in 2007; WHEREAS, Zionsville Community Schools has made significant cuts through reductions in programming, staff, faculty, and student related services in response to decreased revenue as a result of a reduction in school funding; WHEREAS, how we support our schools defines us as a community and I desire for our community to continue to be defined as one of the finest, if not the finest, in all of Indiana; THEREFORE, I hereby urge and petition the Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees and all members of this community to work together in addressing our current school funding deficit by seeking a meaningful and lasting solution that will generate the necessary level of revenue to ensure that Zionsville Community Schools continues to provide the great education its students deserve.
