After losing our daughter, Sophie and spending over 5 weeks in 2 different NHS Neonatal Units, it became apparent that there's a lack of standardisation in NHS Neonatal Units. We started our journey in Derby, where the standards were high, but we transfered to Nottingham where it was a completely different story - absolutely no fault of the staff there, but environment issues were everywhere to be seen. After talking to many staff across the 2 Units it was obvious that the issues they face at Nottingham are quite common across the UK, from serious overcrowding, lack of hygiene, faulty equipment, old and worn out baby wear and bedding, poor people and family skills (in most cases staff don't have the time or havent been trained well enough), poor parent facilities to name but a few! When you have seen both sides of the coin, like we have, it's not right that certain Neonatal Units seem to get all the funding and others don't. We are currently fundraising to help these Units through http://www.facebook.com/sophiestinyworld - though we truly believe the NHS need to take responsibility for standardising and improving the care given by all the Neonatal Units in the UK.
