Where are their visitors supposed to park The fact that they are making four lanes of traffic with no pedestrian crossing light is ridiculous! Many of the supposed improvements are really not improvements for the people who live here.Flag

Name: Ann McNEILLY on Jun 28, 2007Comments: I support sidewalks for 240th for the students. 240th street is an extremely busy street where cars and construction vehicles consistantly speed in and out of the school zone. I have concerns for my own safety on 240th and most cars dont even stop for me when I'm at the cross walk. Although I usually support bike lanes I would not support a bike lane that only went from hill ave to 102nd ave. Its not safe for children to bike on this street. Where would parents park while waiting for school kids I live on 240th street and it is very busy around here during pick up times. the school drop off zone is not sufficient. Will there no longer be parking available in front of my house on 240th street I dont approve of this being removed. Get better sidewalks for 240th and surrounding areas. Get cross walk light for the children that have to cross a road that is treated like a highway. Dont put in a left turn only exit out of the school. The majority of people live north of the school. Development is rapid and inevitable but proper planning and upgrades do not appear to be coming with the development. I worry every day about the safety of children in this neighborhood. I have a 1 year old and question whether or not I want to stay in this area for much longer because of the poor designs in sidewalks and heavy / reckless traffic in the area.Flag

Name: Melanie Van Dregt on Jun 28, 2007Comments: I appreciate the district's attempt at improving the traffic issues at 240th street at and around Albion Elementary, however, the solution that you have proposed creates a new set of problems. 1. Most children that attend this school live north of the school and having a right turn only out of the school parking lot sends the drivers in the wrong direction. The drivers choices become either driving all the way around by planet ice (which is way out of the way) and increasing the traffic in that neighbourhood ( that already has traffic issues and has had to add a traffic circle to try and deal with them) or instead of dropping off kids in the school drop off lane, parents may decide to turn left at Hill Ave, make a u-turn, have the kids get out on Hill and use the crosswalk to get to the school. I'm sure the residents of that street would not like that the school's drop off lane has stopped being used in favour of their street. 2. Impact on Bruce's Market. By not allowing people to exit Bruce's and go North on 240th, people who stop in at Bruce's for a few necessities on the way home from work will no longer be able to do that and continue on to their homes, therefore, they will no longer be able to shop there. I'm sure Bruce's will not be impressed with their bottom line. If you do make it possible to exit north on 240th from Bruce's but not the school, people will use that as their turn-around. How would that impact Bruce's business to have a school of 550 students not using the school to turn around, but their parking lot We all know that there is a problem with traffic flow around this school, but I think that the solution that you are proposing is horrible to the surrounding residents, business and to the parents of the school.Flag
