The recent report by Hong Kong based Asia Online highlights the dwindling figures of Indian tea exports. See report at http://www.atimes.com/atimes/S...
The report states Indian tea exports fell in 2003 to 87.8 from 125.7 million kilograms in 2002 (nearly 1/4th). In comparison, Chinese tea exports improved from 122.4 to 132.8 million kilograms in a similar timeframe.
This petition is from resident and non-resident Darjeelingays to urge the authorities in Darjeeling to improve the general infrastructure of tea gardens as well as formulate and execute a marketing plan to revive the export figures.
This petition will be revised and a final copy will be sent to all signatories for comments.
The finalized petition will collectively be sent to DGHC at dghctourism@hotmail.com and Darjeeling Planters Association at dpa@darjeelingtea.com.
A copy will also be forwarded to the Minister of Agro and Rural Industries - www.ari.nic.in, Shri Gautam Sangh Priya at gautama@sansad.nic.in and Shri Anup Kumar Matilal, Secretary, Tea Board - www.teaindia.org at secytboard@vsnl.net
