Comments: The hardship on my family is more than we can bare. DOC only is adding more suffering to our family with these over the edge prices of phone calls and commissary. Causing much more to our family hardships. I'm raising my grandbabies, its so very hard for me to tell them they can't talk to daddy because it costs us more than we have, and watch the tears fill their eyes.... IDOC is shameful, causing them to suffer, more!!!!

Comments: FAMILIES of Illinois incarcerated are ABUSED & PUNISHED w/EXHORBITANT phone charges = NOTE: Rhode Island GTL prison phone company charges LOCAL & INTRAstate $.70 (flat rate) AND FOR INTERstate calls: $1.30 + $.30/min. WHEREAS Illinois Consolidated Communications Phone Service prison phone company (AT&T) = LOCAL & INTRAstate calls: $2.71 + $.16/min. AND FOR INTERstate calls: $3.95 + $.89/min. The reason Rhode Island (& 7 other states) are so very much LESS expensive is because there are NO KICKBACKS to the phone company. Consolidated phone company is doing nothing but contributing to the recidivism rate = There is a widely known & researched correlation between prisoners who maintain contact w/their families & those who are successful in staying out of prison after they are released. This, in turn, benefits the community by REDUCING costs associated with recidivism. Maintaining contact with family & friends is an important part of an inmate's rehabilitation & preparation to return to the community & to get a job & not get into drugs. BUT CONSOLIDATED phone company has created an EXTREME burden and hardship on the incarcerated familities to continually be putting money on their phones because of all the fees that eat their money up every time. Consolidated charges MORE than 14 times more for Local calls: IL = $10. for 30 min. VS. R.I. = $.70 for 30 min. Consolidated is assaulting the families who have done nothing improper = to warrant having their loved one's life sacrificed by Consolidated's callous greed.

Comments: Prisoners are so isolated from society. We need to encourage contact with families and S.O. and therefore have calls either free or at a very minimal cost. This is part of the rehabilitation process.
