Yes, I’ve heard about all the jobs that it is supposed to bring to Thomson Correctional Center outside the Quad Cities but in my opinion, they don’t belong here but in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Over and above the safety concerns about the potential housing of Gitmo detainees in Illinois, I support House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) when he wrote “There ought to be an informed debate on whether this is the right move to make, the result of a calm and nonpartisan inquiry into the facts and assumptions behind this proposal and an inquiry into the validity of predictions, generated by the governor’s office, that this transaction would benefit the people of Illinois.” We’re not just dealing with run of the mill criminals but war criminals, and as such, they should be housed in military facilities preferably OUTSIDE the United States.
