I say: Show us the money! When all schools are funded fairly and there is local control of the budget, the community will feel ownership, the students will feel the difference. There is no excuse for the way in which public schools fail their students. None.Flag

You're robbing the future and threatening the economic success of the state -- a well-educated workforce is the hard currency of the future. Name: Renee Whitehouse on Apr 5, 2004State: ILComments: Our children are this countries future leaders and they deserve the best education possible. Many children in lower income areas are not given the same opportunities as their counterparts in wealthier areas. This needs to stop - all of the children in Illinois deserve the best education. They deserve to be educated equally, with the same opportunies afforded to ALL!Flag

Name: Kay White on Apr 5, 2004State: ILComments: I demand that Governor Rod Blagojevich acknowledge that Illinois' system for funding public education is broken and needs to be fixed. We believe the State of Illinois should substantially increase the amount it provides toward the cost of educating our children. I demand that the governor present a plan of action to correct the Illinois school funding problem by September 1, 2004.Flag

Name: Gina Herrmann on Apr 5, 2004State: ILComments: I live and work in a school district which has not passed a referendum since 1968. Needless to say, the school is having to make many cutbacks. My child will begin to attend kindergarten in the fall of 2005. I have been debating aimlessly whether to send her to public or private schools. In addition, I have been looking for homes in neighboring communities but find they all have some kind of financial burden. It is unfair for children to not receive a good, well-rounded education because they do not come from an area with a lot of industry. Children should be educated equally. Something MUST be done!! It is time for our government to step in and make changes! We are no longer able to leave the decision of our children's future up to the voters. Many people simply don't care or understand the significance of a referendum.Flag

We need to improve funding so that we can continue to provide excellence in education and attract motivated, energectic teachers to the field and pay them a livable wage with GOOD health care benefits. Our children do not deserve less than what we were given. They deserve more and they definitely deserve more in terms of funding than state prisoners, although they are not getting it.Flag
