Whereas, over one million illegal aliens sneak into the U.S. every year costing American taxpayers untold billions of dollars (according to the Census Bureau and INS);
Whereas, the emergency medical treatment for illegal aliens in the year 2000 was over $200 million for 77 border-area hospitals in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas (according to the U.S.-Mexico Border Counties Coalition);
Whereas, more than 40 million American citizens cannot afford health insurance (according to many health care advocates);
Therefore, be it resolved:
That, America's elected leaders must recognize that while we have a moral obligation to save lives in dire emergencies, patient care for American citizens must come first!!
That, Congress and state legislators should consider legislation to tax the remittances of illegal aliens working in the U.S. to help cover the costs of border-area hospitals. |
