Congress has been overrun by special interest groups of all kinds seeking to legislate everything from morality and indecency to economic policy and social welfare. The more decisions they make for us, the fewer we can make for ourselves. It's time to let the people make their own decisions. It's time to let the public vote on legislation.
State congresses should be mandated to launch secure web servers that would be linked via satellite to form a federal LAN(Local Area Network). The federal and state congresses should then be required to used the web servers to publish their legislation and collect votes.
PUBLISHING:
The legislation should be publish in the top eight most spoken languages in America. It would be written clearly using proper grammar, sentence structure and pictorials. There would be a limit of two federal and two state pieces of legislation per week. Each piece of legislation would be publish no less than ninety days prior to it's scheduled closing of the polls.
VOTING:
The poll on each piece of legislation should open seven days prior to the scheduled closing of the poll. All votes would be collected via the state websites. Each state would only collect votes from it's residence.
THE FEDERAL LAN:
Each state web server would keep backup copies of all voter data from all of the other state websites in real time. This way, if any unauthorized changes are made to any voter data on any state server, it will conflict with every back up copy on every other state server. Such conflicts would then be investigated by state and federal oversight committee. The state servers would interface to the internet through firewalls and votes would be collected using 128bit SSL encryption.
Let congress do what it does best- write legislation- while we do what we do best- vote. |

My name is Lawrence Hyde. I am a college student majoring in IT. I am also a libertarian. I believe that the only purpous of government is to protect against force and fraud. Likewise, I don't see how 535 people in congress can somehow represent 280 million americans. Special interest groups, both conservative and liberal, are using the legislature to increase taxation and restrict personal and economic freedom of choice. |
