Zimbabwe has experienced an increase in teenage pregnancy which is at its highest point in over two decades according to recent national statistics. The provision of comprehensive sexuality education is key to reducing these pregnancies and in preventing other sexual and reproductive health challenges in young people like STIs including HIV. When young people are educated, we give them the power to make responsible decisions over their lives and their future. If we don't provide such education then we leave our young people at risk of receiving incorrect information from misinformed peers and inaccurate media sources. Join me and the 3.3 million Zimbabwean young people in school in asking for comprehensive sexuality education from the Ministry of Education. This education must be age-appropriate and suite the context of our communities. The Ministry of Education has produced a Lifeskills and Sexuality Education Strategy to guide the provision of this education and it hasn't been launched. This strategy was meant to start in 2011 but has been delayed to this point. Most recently, the Ministry agreed to launch it on the 4th of July 2013 but went back on their word and have postponed its launch indefinitely. We need this strategy to be launched to allow young people to receive much-needed information and the time for this strategy to be launched is now. SIGN this petition to push the Ministry of Education to release a new date for the launch of the strategy and to stick to their word. Zimbabwe is counting on you!
