I really cannot believe it but they actually agreed to put in the sidewalk and fix the stop so kids can finally walk to school without holding their breath. It feels surreal knowing that hundreds of us pointing at the same spot on the road actually moved such a massive …

Highway 9 should be safer for kids going to school, for people walking and biking. Santa Cruz County, the Santa Cruz Metro (bus), and Caltrans should work together to build a sidewalk from Fall Creek Drive to the High School, along with an improved bus stop.

Two hundred and fifty people just signed this thing and I honestly started laughing out loud when I refreshed the page because I definitely thought it would just be me and maybe my cousin. It is wild to think about all those kids actually being able to walk to class without dodging traffic while I drink my coffee and try to figure out who at the county office I need to call first.

My child has biked to school along Highway 9 specifically in the area described by this petition, and has been involved in a bike accident. The improvement work is extremely important.

In addition the "25 Mph when children are present" school zone sign is impossible to see as it's blocked partially by trees and not at driver eye level. There needs to be better signage in both directions along HW9 indicating that drivers need to slow down and where the school zone starts and ends.

Keeping our children safe is our priority. Walking along a 2 lane highway is a high risk. Especially with the numerous distractions drivers encounter around a school, also the less experienced high school drivers in the area.

We walk our children to school, and there are constantly near misses of cars so often. It is so dangerous & people have no regard that there's a school near by. Please make highway 9 safer for our children of all ages walking to school. Thanks

With a sidewalk, we would walk to school daily. As is, this stretch of road is really dangerous. I regularly see distracted drivers veer out of lane onto the shoulder where children are walking or biking.

PLEASE help make this walkspace safe. I do not let my two school age children walk along Highway 9 because of the danger, and thus I add to unnecessary traffic on Highway 9 picking them up from school.

I want to see Sidewalks & Bike Lanes, on both sides of Hwy 9, from Henry Cowell State Park entrance to Ben Lomond Valley Churches/BL Market. After that I want to see Safe & Wide Bike Lanes the entire length of Highway 9 especially where it isn't practical to put in sidewalks.
