In 1966 the Georgetown, CO Silver Plume, CO corridor was designated as a Historic District/Landmark which included the entire commercial and residential areas of both communities. These areas possess exceptional value and quality. They are recognized on a national, state & local level as places that are significant in their designation.

Colorado population from 1966 to 2016 has increased from 2 million to 5.4 million thus significantly adding to the traffic volume on I-70 along this corridor. The noise pollution from this massive 24 hr traffic increase has impacted this pristine environment and designation. In turn this noise pollution has reduced quality of life, impacted health, increased environmental pollution, stressed services, wildlife and local residents.

This petition is asking our local, state and national leadership to consider funding a Sound Mitigation Wall to be built from the Georgetown I-70 on ramp, eastbound approx 1.5 miles to the dam on Georgetown Lake. This Sound Wall would reduce traffic noise significantly and also help reduce air pollution. The addition of this Sound Wall would ensure the protection of this pristine Historic/Landmark corridor designation, improve quality of life and health issues for residents, enhance guest experiences using the Georgetown area facilities and indirectly protect wildlife.
