Anonymous | yes- too loud for too long!
Anonymous | I have complained to SF Muni twice about this exact same request. Often this happens when people are outside standing in line still trying to get onto the train. Caltrain, Bart, and Muni buses do not have these types of noises. Bart has 2 short friendly beeps to let you know the doors are about to close. I don't see why the Muni trains should be any different when either the steps move or when the doors close. The current sound level & length is excessive and very inhumane!

Brian Ward | I've never heard a noise as awful as this on any transit system I've ever been on.
Nina | I wholeheartedly support this petition - that awful sound HAS got to go! "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!!" Please. Surely a more acceptable sound can be found.
Darryl Knudsen | Too loud -- I think I'm getting hearing loss. If you're looking to catalyze a social sanction against those inflicting the harmful bell on the other riders, try a method that doesn't unduly penalize those riders acting properly, as well. Thanks.
Marcus Vigil | I live in Noe Valley. I don't have a car (or a bike right now.) So, I use MUNI.

| 112 | mark scott | One imagines that the purpose is to deter people from holding the doors (a cause of door malfunction and system delays), but by the time that horrendous, high-decibel squeal sounds, it is already too late. Damage (if any) has been done, the offender has not been deterred, he/she is unlikely to be deterred the next time, and innocent riders on board have been dealt the punishment. Muni, like transit systems everywhere, should be looking for ways to make the riding experience more pleasant and thus lure commuters, not turn them off (/away) with nonsense like this.
Thanks for the petition. |

Christian Perry | As a frequent Muni rider, I would be most please if you would consider a change to that godawful high-pitched beep that assaults my ears every time a straggling passenger forces the doors open. Please consider this change as soon as you can.
louis | the shit is to damn loud
Ave Mince-Didier |
| 118 | Jamie Cantwell | This bell is ridiculous. A high-pitched screech designed for maximum hearing impairment.
Why not a nice toll sound like BART? |

Noel Anderson | The ring is most annoying when the doors are jammed and the driver has to come and fix them.
Adam Levin |
Anita Hart | Incredibly too long and jarring! It hurts my ears and I wear headphones, and it makes me squirm. I'm so glad someone is trying to do something to get this noisy nuisance changed and that others feel the same way as I do! Maybe the alternative option can have the side rails area vibrate a bit as well, so those w/ impairments can feel it.
Michaela Fox | I ride the N all the time and the alert bell is so loud and such a piercing tone that it hurts my ears. Especially during rush hour when people will do anything to get on the train. I don't believe it does anything to deter people from holding the door open. The only thing it does is hurt riders ear drums. I do understand the need for a warning for the steps going down, but there must be a more pleasant sound that can be used.
Anonymous | I totally agree with this movement. The current alarm is painful!
William M. Blakely | I often wonder, on hearing that horrible noise, how long it will take it to impair my hearing enough to make the noise less unbearable.

N.Tesla | and minimize those canned "muni reminders!"

Joseph Deal | These screeching alerts are damaging to our hearing. It's actually painful. This is totally unnecessary.
Anonymous | That bell is pure bullshit, and muni knows it.
J. McElroy | when the train is filled to capacity it tends to take more than the allotted time to make ones way to a door. The current alarm just adds to an already uncomfortable/stressful situation.
Amanda Hamilton | The beep is PAINFUL -- sometimes I physically wince -- and only makes everyone more irritable about the door being blocked. There must be a better way!
Stacy Haines | Please change the sound of this alert. It really hurts my ears. It especially hurts the ears of your small children passengers!
Carmen A Lemoine | As a classical musician, I'd especially appreciate keeping my hearing in tact. Thank you.

Calliope Gazetas | Please change the alarm, it is far louder than it needs to be, I'm sure it can be heard for blocks!
