jamesits so annoying!!
Laura TamPlease do this. This alarm is absolutely awful and does not serve as a deterrent to people boarding or exiting trains. It is just unnecessary punishment for those of us riding. Thank you for your consideration.
Griffith LewisPlease consider this request. I have reason to believe it can even cause hearing damage. Thank You Griff Lewis

jeremy champeDon't forget that the T line is now open, as well.
Marco PlaceA MUNI spokesperson stated one reason for this screech is so that the driver won't begin departure while a door is open, but surely there's a light on the LRV's dash to alert the driver that a door is open . I'm surprised the LRV CAN move while a door is open. Thanks Ms. Hellein for this petition.
AnonymousThe bell is too loud and actually has made me physically ill; I've been successfully avoiding it by USING A CAR. Thanks, A LOT, MUNI! Are we supposed to be grateful it's 'only' on the light rail? of course, since our expectations of MUNI responsiveness grow lower all the time...you know, MUNI claims it's safety, but BART and the rest of MUNI seem to manage ok without physically damaging their riders.
Guy LautenPlease stop this unnecessary noise pollution! It hurts!!!
AnonymousThe spokesperson from Muni on the news said the alarms were necessary so the drivers don't pull out with the door open? Please....every other subway system seems to function without them and so did Muni before these new cars. Not buying it.
AnonymousThe spokesperson from Muni on the news said the alarms were necessary so the drivers don't pull out with the door open? Please....every other subway system seems to function without them and so did Muni before these new cars. Not buying it. They seems to have no problem pulling out when people are running to catch the train!

Anonymousmy fucking ears ring and i'm THIS close to killing someone when that fucking alarm goes off

Kathryn M RinkiI support the effort toward safety, but the volume is deafening. If it is the conductor who needs to hear the alarm, then perhaps the alarm can go to his/her cabin.

AnonymousI avoid taking the N specifically because of the shriek of the alarms. Even when wearing ear plugs, the sound is blood curdling
Susanna AlvarezWhile often the sheer volume of the alarm is the biggest problem, a different tone would certainly reduce any perceived need for such volume. Many people, surely including many Muni operators, have hearing loss in the upper registers; perhaps a tone that these people could hear better would encourage them to set the alarm to a volume that is not painful to those of us with good hearing.

AnonymousThe screeching makes for a very uncomfortable ride. Not a great way to start your morning.

Jordan MathenyAbsolutely. It's one of those little things that can really push you over the edge during rush hour, when everybody is crammed, it's hot, and nobody can breathe, and then God, that noise could split your skull! Really, a bell would be nice. And while you're at it, enough of those stupid safety announcements on the Muni buses. That robot voice makes me feel like I live in a techno-fascist dystopia.

Timothy RoselandYah that noise is ridiculous. It drives me insane. I simple voice "Preparing to raise the steps" would suffice.
Robert EvansI ride the J everyday and agree completely.
Sally NielsenThis would be a huge improvement in the quality of the trip on Muni. The current alarm is senselessly extreme!
Anna L. ContiPlease - the sound is physically painful, and way too frequent for it to be considered a true alarm.
Carl YestrauInvasive noise. I would love to hear it replaced with local artists.
David W. SumnerThis alarm is painful to those who already suffer from inner ear damage. It must be changed.
Harold DowningThat piercing alarm is psychic death. It's the flashing red cherry placed atop a whole mountain of Muni unpleasantries and indignities. It's effective only in the sense that passengers (except those riding Muni long enough to have their senses dulled if not deadened) are visibly alarmed when the alarm cuts through the air and sonic-drills their ear drums. I've complained to Muni about the alarm and received the typically limp response one can expect from overpaid government employees. So, I say good-bye and good riddance to Muni's craptacular service, good-bye to mentally ill passengers, and good-bye to door alarms. I am going to wipe away the blood trickling out of my ears and go buy a car.
AnonymousMy ears, head, teeth and soul hurt whenever I hear this sound. Banish it from public transit!
