Hank Trout | I have complete hearing loss in my left ear, which makes my right ear extraordinarily sensitive to loud high-pitched noises like the ear-splitting alarm on MUNI trains. Hearing the alarm is very much akin to jamming a knitting needle into my eardrum and brain. It is not only an obnoxiously loud noise, it actually causes me great physical pain. Why not change it to more dulcet tones like the "ding dong" warning on the London metro?

| 11 | Tim Brace | This has been one of my biggest complaints about Muni for a long time. It is unnecessary to annoy the passengers in this way. Please take action on this.
You are so right. Thank you for doing this. God bless you! |

Andru Reeve | I couldn't agree more! I wear EARPLUGS everytime I have to ride the light rail system. I can't believe MORE people aren't annoyed/antagonized by this noise pollution. It actually goes beyond my hearing; it makes my nerves vibrate in pain when that "bell" (it's NOT a bell by any stretch of the imagination) chimes. This sonic affrontry has been going on ever since the new MUNI cars came into service 7 years ago; why has nothing been done in this intervening period?
Eric Gregory | That horrible, horrible sound makes me want to cover up the speakers with thick layers of duct tape. Please change it so I won't have to do this.
Mathew Jones | Maybe a human voice recording "Please stand clear of the door"
Matthew Sweeney | Please do something to change this awful sound. I think it is causing seizures.
Nicole Hogarty | seriously!

kasey hovencamp | i plug my ears every time that bells goes off. and i pray that the poor person running for the train, doesn't get their hand in the door to set that alarm off again!

Marijke De Bondt | I couldn't agree more. Thank you for starting this.
gwendolyn warfield | Please! A warning bell is important, but the siren is painful and often goes off when not necessary (as when someone gets on the train right before the doors close). It is unnecessarily harsh!
Catherine Cooney | It's going to give someone a heart attack.

James Edwards | I truly believe a SADIST invented this chime; nothing else could explain it. How could ANYONE, in their right mind, choose that dreadful, aurally-painful sound? Other transportation systems in California and around the world have alarm bells, but they're nowhere near as hearing-damaging as the MUNI lightrail alarms! END THIS NOW!!!!

Dolores Church |
Margaret Wallace | Please make this happen. That alarm bell makes me cringe.
James Coughlan | The ear-splitting alarm is just one reason I wear earplugs whenever I ride the J.
