Are you aware that there are ONLY 6 out of 50 of our states that require animal shelters to euthanize animals humanely?
I think it's awful that this is the way it is! How can we, the United States think we can condemn other nations for their policies regarding how animals are treated when we still allow these barbaric forms of euthanasia to continue? It's just appalling that these practices are still being used. We need to get all 50 states to have a law that will ensure that if they need to euthanize, at least it can/should be done humanely!
You ask, how do they put the animals to sleep if not humanely? By gas chamber, cardiac stick, yes it's WORSE than it sounds, by putting animals in a building and running a car hose into the building that has no windows, just bricks so they die by carbon monoxide poisoning, these are the ways as a dog rescuer that I have heard from people who aide the local shelters they are trying to assist.
Congress also needs to include in a bill, that any and all animals that end up at a shelter, dog pound, etc be required to have each animal altered as part of the Adoption Contract, eventually maybe every state would finally be able to get each and every animal adopted instead of having to euthanize.
