BEDFORD COMMUNITY COUNCIL ASSOCIATION PETITION

The petition

WHEREAS the community of Bedford has experienced significant population and assessment growth since the creation of HRM and during that time available public amenities and services have remained largely unchanged;

THEREFORE we, the undersigned, hereby petition the Council of Halifax Regional Municipality and the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations to take immediate steps to amend the Municipal Government Act so as to provide an effective, representative and democratic governance model for the residents of Bedford, including consideration of, but not limited to:

1. Creation of a Community Council consisting of the Bedford Representative of HRM Council assisted by an advisory group of Bedford residents;
2. Creation of a Bedford Service Commission with responsibility to provide advice and management regarding recreation, planning and infrastructure needs in Bedford; and
3. Such other amendments as are indicated to better provide for the development growth of Bedford.
