Dear Congressman Lamar Smith The past ten years have seen China's communist leaders violently suppress tens of millions of Chinese citizens simply for their practice of Falun Gong - a gentle spiritual practice consisting of exercises and moral teachings. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and a host of others report that tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in China have been arrested on spurious charges, with thousands being sent to slave labor camps without trial. Torture is widespread, and now accounts for at least 3,000 deaths in police custody; the number is believed to be much higher.. Thousands have been stripped of their homes, jobs, educations, and even families. This situation is appalling to any person of goodwill. The suppression of Falun Gong by Chinese authorities has spread overseas to U.S. Veggie Heaven, a restaurant located at 1914 A Guadalupe, Austin TX 78705, has been vandalized around May 2008. Veggie Heaven was supporting the Quit CCP (Chinese Communist Party) movement- a global network that encourages Chinese to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The movement celebrated a milestone of 35 million withdrawals on May of last year. The banner which encourages people to quit CCP was cut and torn, the front door of the restaurant was also broken. The persecution has extended to U.S, Veggie Heaven was vandalized simply for supporting Falun Gong and the Quit CCP movement. HR 605 created by Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen (FL) which will recognize the continued persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China on the 10th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party campaign to suppress the Falun Gong spiritual movement and calling for an immediate end to the campaign to persecute, intimidate, imprison, and torture Falun Gong practitioners. H.R 605 also calls upon the Government of the People's Republic of China to end all harassment and intimidation within the borders of the United States of Falun Gong practitioners and to end all interference in their exercise of rights guaranteed under the United States Constitution and applicable laws of the United States. Therefore, we, the undersigned, call on Congressman Lamar Smith to co-sponsor the H.R 605 which will demand that the government of the People's Republic of China cease its persecution of Falun Gong immediately, and stop all the harassment within the U.S.
