Name: Anonymous on Sep 5, 2006Comments: I have to leave for work at 5.30am and I am told that the empty parking space is taken by a bus driver within 1/2 hour . When I return home at 8.30pm more often than not I can't park and often have to resort to parking in Homebase car park. 1 parking permit per household would solve the problem .Flag

Restricting parking infront of the garages would reduce the number of parking spaces.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 6, 2006Comments: It should definately be ONE PERMIT PER HOUISEHOLD. We are a young family and manage with one car. I commute to work using bike/train and work unsocial hours. People should attempt to get by with one vehicle in light of the environmental catastrophe that is facing our planet...Flag

Name: Liz Bulman on Sep 6, 2006Comments: I have definitely noticed an increase of cars parking in the street during the day and see a steady stream of office people in their suits parking in Landseer Road and then trotting off either to the station or Legal & General. Parking is also bad as there are many house / flat owners with more than one car. I never had a problem parking in the street during the day and evenings were never great - but things have definitely got a whole lot worse and this is before the parking restrictions in Poets Corner have come into operation.Flag

Name: Andy O'Callaghan on Sep 6, 2006Comments: This should be effected as soon as possible. This situation is only going to get worse. My office is in Poets corner, the parking problem has made things very difficult for us as a company, now the zoning has been applied this will sort out the problems there. However the overspill from the surrounding zones is starting to flood this small area and has been doing so for sometime, lets stick together and get our area ZONED.Flag

Name: Andfrew Dobell on Sep 6, 2006Comments: I fully support all the comments above. I regularly see people who I know work in local shops park their cars in my street (Frith Road) before going to work for the day, the plumbers round the corner has several vans that are regularly parked in our road, the wholesale cleaning supplier similarly has two or three vans that are parked in the area and many people use the road to park for before catching the bus into town for work or shopping.Flag

Name: Emma Rees on Sep 7, 2006Comments: I live in Leighton Road and find the parking situation intollerable. We are a one-car household and it is amazing that we are never able to park in our own street, as we normally arrive home from work after 7.30pm. It is extremely irritating to find spaces used by commercial and oversized vehicles in a residential area. At present, we normally have no choice but to park in Homebase carpark overnight but it is only a matter of time before the patience of the manager runs out and this is stopped, particularly as the commercial 'overspill' from Leightion Road has started to park there as well. While I do object to the idea of paying for parking in our own street, I see this as the only option to solve the current problem.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 8, 2006Comments: I live in Leighton Road and I have experienced many of the problems that others have described. Consequently I would be in favour of the scheme if it could be proved that it would work. However, I know people who have lived in areas with residents only parking schemes and they have found that it has made little difference. The reason is simply that the residents own more cars than there are spaces. In our area there is basically enough room for one car per house. Obviously some households have more than one car. Further, some houses have been split into flats so there is more than one household per house. So it is not obvious that a residents only scheme will help, particularly with the situation in the evening when most people are at home. Therefore I would like to see the scheme be introduced on a trial basis for a period of one year. If it works it can be continued but if it doesnFlag

Name: Jean Grover on Sep 9, 2006Comments: Many comments have been made about the impact of L&G - I work for L&G and I know that the impact of moving to the new building has not yet been felt. It was becoming impossible to park before we moved in in May. On-lry one of the three buildings has ben occupied at this time. I support the view of the council and L&G that you should discourage people from driving to work unless they car share, but this will be undermined if they can park in the nearby roads. I try to use my car as little as possible, and share ownership of it with a neighbour but I still need to use one from time to time for work and often cannot park anywhere near my road (Prinsep Road) when I get home.Flag

Name: Deborah Carter on Sep 9, 2006Comments: I have lived in this road for over 12 years and thwe parking is now virtually impossible! When the football ground was up the road and was still able to park in one of the roads in artists corner. In the last 6 months i am reduced to endlessly circling the block looking in vain for a space. It makes no difference whether it is during the day or evening I ma lucky to be able to find a space and am often parking in Homebase's carpark! I can't think they are too happy about that. I am tired of getting parking tickets for infringing the yellow lines at the west end of Poynter Road , where there seems to be some confusion where the yellow lines begin and end. If we can not have a residents only scgheme can wehave a bye law that states all vans/lorries bigger than a transit van have to be parked off road There are many works vehicles for the gas board and electricity in the road that should surely be left at the person's place of work rather than clutteriung up residential streets. In areas of some Japanese cities if you wish to own a vehicle you have to be able to park it off road and it works very well.Flag

Name: I DON'T AGREE on Sep 10, 2006Comments: I DON'T AGREE WITH THE PETITION. THE PARKING SITUATION COULD BE RADICALLY IMPROVED IF PEOPLE: A) PARKED MORE CONSIDERATELY B) DIDN'T INSIST ON OWNING MORE THAN ONE CAR C) DIDN'T DRIVE OVER-SIZED, PLANET-DESTROYING SUVS! I'VE LIVED HERE FOR OVER 4 YEARS AND HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PARK OUTSIDE THESE STREETS ON ONLY ONE OCCASION IN THAT TIME.Flag

Name: Martin Stone on Sep 11, 2006Comments: I live in Leighton Road and have noticed how it has become more difficult to park in my road and neighbouring streets in recent times. It is purely down to the fact that roads south of the bridge have become permit zones forcing vehicles up into our area. Where am I supposed to park when I arrive home late from work The sooner this area becomes a permit zone the better.Flag

Name: Andrew Fairbrother on Sep 12, 2006Comments: In an ideal world, we wouldn't need any car. It is fortunate for those households who's circumstances allow them to live with one car only. It is something of a fantasy to think that all couples can coordinate both their commuting to work using the same car, or use public transport as a practicable alternative. Not all 2-car families hang on to 2 cars just out of sheer decadence. If the neigbourhood was brought under the same scheme as the new zone we would be on equal terms with that zone, including benefit of restricting those who do not live in the area. As we are now the only unrestricted area south of Old Shoreham Road, every man and his dog is forced to park here, since they have little choice of parking anywhere else without a permit. The roads of "Artist's Corner" have simply become the drain into which all cars without permits flow.Flag

I have had to pay numerous parking fines for parking on the double yellows at the corner of my road overnight because there just wasn't any space available. A big thank you for getting this petition together.Flag
