We the undersigned call upon the House of Commons to debate the situation in which people of 50 years of age and above are forced into retirement or unemployment against their will by employers in the public services and private industry trying to save money, often using procedures, such as Capability Procedures, designed to protect staff from arbitrary dismissal. We call on the Government to take action: to investigate how these procedures are being misused by heads of institutions; to ensure that workers are protected against enforced retirement; and to review pension ages to bring pension entitlement into line with what is really happening in the market place.
