The state has officially approved the acquisition of the Houghton Falls property. We are now working with the DNR to finalize the transition of this land into a protected public preserve. Keep an eye on the site to ensure the stewardship agreements are upheld as the transition moves forward.

We the undersigned support the acquisition and creation of the Houghton Falls Nature Preserve. While we recognize that this will take a small amount of undeveloped land off the tax rolls, we believe that the value of protecting this beautiful property for future generations greatly outweighs the nominal cost in terms of lost tax revenues. We believe that this site is of important cultural and natural heritage significance and should be preserved in a way that allows the public to enjoy its scenic beauty.

Approximately 75 acres surround the ravine and falls, which has been identified as an area of interest in DNR’s Wisconsin Land Legacy Report. The availability of this extraordinarily scenic property, as well as federal and state grant funds to finance the acquisition, presents a wonderful opportunity to establish a public preserve to allow continued public access to this local treasure.

KEEP IT PUBLIC. Once it's gone it is gone forever. Protect the falls for our kids.

Enough with the tax revenue argument. Some things are worth more than a few bucks in the city budget.
