Name: Nataraj Hauser on Aug 10, 2003State: WICountry: USComments: I have been a customer of Hot Topic, and appreciated the Pagan friendly atmosphere. Obviously I was mistaken in Hot Topic's support of the First Amendment to the US Constitution, and its willingness to cave in to the religious intolerance of certain Christian groups. I will not spend any more money at Hot Topic until I hear that this matter is resolved. I WILL support companies that support religious freedom for all Americans. Shame on you, Hot Topic. Shame.Flag

Name: Beryl Ouimette on Aug 10, 2003State: ILCountry: USComments: As a teenager I enjoyed shopping at Hot Topic because they identified with my needs for personal expression. As I grew older, I'd see kids wearing similar witchy clothing and I would smile, knowing they probably got their duds at the hip and sympathetic Hot Topic. I'm very sad that you let a conservative force influence your image, as the stuff you sell encourages individuality and free-thinking. You probably know very well that Wiccans don't practice satanism or harm others; the decision you made only fuels hurtful ignorance. You can always change your mind again on this issue - the kids today need you! Practice what you preach and support the freedom of expression.Flag

That's bullshit. They've got their lil christian stores, i should be able to buy my pagan stuffs along with my goth/freak/rave stuff.Flag

In truth this decision is based on ignorance and pressure levied against the managment.Flag

Name: Miranda Prince on Aug 10, 2003State: ORCountry: USComments: This really isn't a matter of religious rights. Hot Topic has a right to sell what it wants to sell; customers don't have some sacred right to be able to find what they want there. Still, it would be nice if they did carry Wicca-related merchandise.Flag

To give in to narrow-minded opinions regarding witchcraft and Wiccan beliefs is to encourage discrimination and oppression. Please change your policy to reflect the diverse religious beliefs of United States citizens and their religious freedom as guaranteed in the Constitution.Flag

Name: Kathe Walters on Aug 10, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: I am writing to Hot Topic to tell them I have no intention of boycotting them, or Torrid. Don't be ridiculous. This is not discrimination of any kind; it's simply business. IF you all were actually concerned with religious freedom, you would be concerned with *everyone's* religious freedom, rather than just your own convenience or self-interest. You'd be asking every store in the nation that carries any religious products at all to carry products for *every* religion. And that would include "Pagan" or "Occult" stores. In that light, can you see how just plain silly this petition is PLEASE, please, do not continue to make the larger Pagan population look like a bunch of whiny, petulant idiots.Flag
