Wakefield Metropolitan District Council recently announced the closure of the Hornsea Centre - a residential facility which provides access to a variety of outdoor and educational activities to children across the Wakfield MDC area. The removal of this Centre will result in the loss of jobs within the area and will deprive underprivileged children of a vital educational and social resource. The "Hornsea Support Group" have been established to fight the closure of the Centre and instead to take on the management and running of the Centre as a social enterprise. The Group have identified a number of ways in which the management of the Centre could be improved and other services introduced to meet the ever changing needs of lower income and underprivileged children and their families. We would there like to petition Wakefield MDC to reconsider their decision to close the centre and to encourage any partners willing to work with the group to secure the future of the Centre as intended when the land was bequeathed to the people of Wakefield to step forward and to support our cause.
