Name: Stephen Baguley on Aug 17, 2008Comments: This is a vital local resource and there is no way logistically that boats from other sources can respond within the same time frame. To remove this would be a degradation of our local cover and as I read it against the MCGA 'Vision' statement.Flag

Name: Mick Palmer on Aug 17, 2008Comments: This is bureaucracy gone mad again. I hope l am not in trouble at sea and where there is danger to life that Coastguard does not prevent the rescue boat being launched. This crew acted correctly and should be commended. To say 'coding' prevented rescue is outrageous - a poor sign of the times we live in. Rescuers and Crew 10.....Coastguard NilFlag

Name: R,d.whitting on Aug 17, 2008Comments: I thought the primary roll of the MCA was to promote safety around the UK coasts, This point seems to have been missed by the MCA, a government agency that only seems interested in not doing what its paid for. If these people were working in private business they would have had their marching orders long ago.Flag

Name: Justin Harmer on Aug 17, 2008Comments: The MCA's reaction to this incident has been disgraceful. Have they stopped to ponder what would have fall out would have been like had our boat crew obeyed the MCA's precious precedures, and the girl had drowned Could they have lived with that if they say they could, they should not be in their jobs.Flag

Name: Bridget Kirke on Aug 18, 2008Comments: Unbelievable that this should happen. Everyone knows that it takes 15 - 20 minutes for the Lifeboat from Salcombe to get to Hope Cove. The young girl could have drowned before they got there. Well done Coastguards from Hope Cove for using their initiative for taking their boat out the 200 yards to save her. They deserve a medal not disciplinary action.Flag

Name: Natasha Webb on Aug 18, 2008Comments: I have been going to the Hope Cove Festival on the August bank holiday weekend for the past 10 years to set up and fire their Saturday night firework display. I know the coastguards involved in this incident and also know that they would give their lives to save a stranger. This situation is typical of Britain today, the coastguards have to use their own money to repair a public service boat and then get reprimanded for doing their jobs in a boat that should have been back in the water weeks ago. I would trust my life to any one of these men as I'm sure would anyone else who visits the Cove. With the amount of people, especially children who will be in the village this coming weekend I hate to think what could happen if this boat and these men are not back in the water. Someone needs to sort it out. NOW!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008Comments: For years Hope Cove has been an extremely popular holiday destination for generationsof families. The lovely, sandy beach attracts hundreds of adults and children, especially, of course, during the summer months. It is sheer madness that such a busy holiday venue should be deprived of a coastguard rescue boat. Commonsense must prevail!Flag

Name: John on Aug 18, 2008Comments: As a regular visitor to Hope Cove and a regular yachtman, I am apalled by the actions of the actions of the MCA. The statement of their spokesman that "search-and-rescue effectiveness will not be compromised by the suspension of the general purpose boat. " is clearly incorrect. The boat needs to be returned to Hope Cove immediately.Flag
