The place for a homeless shelter would seem, at least to me, to be more appropriate in an area where there are homeless people. Old Ashburn does not have homeless -- why would we want to bus them in.
I would like our Government Representatives to explain the process by which Old Ashburn was chosen; population surveys, economics, neighborhood impacts, potential crime impacts, who are the decision makers and what are their qualifications , etc. |

The residents and business owners in Ashburn Village and Ashburn Farm, as well as the users of the W&OD Trail, will undoubtly suffer if this becomes a realization. I am a proponent of helping those in need and I provide financial support and clothing, etc. to numerous charities throughout the year. But to locate this shelter in this area is a terrible idea. You are creating a HUGE problem if you allow this. How can you do this to our beautiful neighborhoods and more importantly, put our children in undeniable danger?! Tell us how this will benefit our community?? |

It is absolutely ridiculous to CREATE a problem for the residents of Ashburn where one does not currently exist! While I do support a thrift store, I will NOT support the thrift store by donating or patronizing if a day center exists. And I'm quite certain that my fellow residents of Ashburn won't support it, either. |

There MUST be a more appropriate location for a shelter. If ANYONE felt this was a good idea they would have "advertised" it for what it IS and not just a drop off point for used items and a location for a thrift store to SUPPORT the needs of the homeless community. Not a location to bring the indigent population in and "house" them for the day and force them into our neighborhoods in the evening and night!!! This is outrageous!! |

There is no infrastructure to deal with the influx of people that will be in the area. Additionally, Ashburn does not have a homeless population. Why would you not build a shelter to house the people where they live, where they can find jobs? It makes no sense to hide Leesburg's homeless problem in the residental suburb of Ashburn. Please do not do this! It makes NO SENSE! |

| 41 | Bob Mott | Our quality of life and peace of mind will take a serious hit if this goes through. We will now worry about the safety of our familes and the security of our property. Parents will not feel comfortable letting their kids go to the pool, playground, library, or soccer fields. Parents will think twice before leaving their kids with a baby sitter. The safety of the terrific W&OD trail will be threatened. Many of us who travel on business will have one more thing to keep us up at night. How many of us spend hours commuting every day to give our families a quality place to live? It bothers me a great deal that this has been forced on us without a reasonable opportunity to weigh in on the issue. A thrift store and administrative offices are appropriate for Old Ashburn. Transporting troubled people to the heart of our community is not. It may be time to move. |

| 50 | Jeanne Siracuse | I acknpwledge the need for a shelter. There are several reasons this shelter should not be in ANY part of Ashburn -
1 - Ashburn does not have a significant homeless population. Shelter should go where it is convenient to those it intends to service, Leesburg or Sterling.
2- Our bus service is already almost unusable due to the amount of time it takes to go a few miles down Route 7 (few buses, too many detours/stops along the way). Adding a stop several miles from the intended service route (RT 7 coorridor) for one specific population unlikely to use the service anyway is a waste of money, and further makes the service unusable to the general population.
3 - There is little commercial development on this road. Policing of the area reflects that. In addition, there are few opportunities in the immediate area for employment or for those in the shelter to try to incorporate themselves into a contributing position in society. Intentionally busing people in with little reason to be there will change the dynamics of the policing focus and offer those bused in little. We, the tax payers, will inevitably have to fund additional policing. Another waste of our money with little to no benefit to anyone.
PUT THE SHELTER IN A MORE APPROPRIATE AREA.
Should this shelter proceed, I will not vote for any of those who approved any type of public funding for this project, through intent or simply through inaction; I will also discontinue all of my support for GSA including my personal contributions and professional contributions. |
