Home Inspectors Against Preferred Vendors Programs Real Estate Companies Dec 17. 2009 | Comments (0)
I have been a full time Home Inspector in Western New York since the mid 1990's. Of course I've been approched many, many times over the years to partisapate in these "Prefered Vendor" programs offered by various Real Estate Companies.
From the beginning, I strongly felt that it's wrong for Home Inspectors to take part in these types of programs. I find them to be unethical and a conflict of interest to say the least.
I was excited when the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) decided that members that take part in these programs are in violation of ASHI's Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. But that only addressed ASHI members. When New York State finally licensed Home Inspectors, I thought that this issue will finally end, once and for all. In the years following the licensing by NY, nothing has been done except more of these programs are being offered to Home Inspectors by Real Estate Companies.
Through this petition, I would like to send a strong message to the New York State Department of State Licensing Department that ethical Home Inspectors throughout NY are strongly against these "Preferred Vendor" programs and to make a definitive ruling on this issue.
I would like to thank all of the upstanding Home Inspectors that do not participate in these "Preferred Vendor" programs and it is an honor share a profession with you.
