Name: Brenda Alves on Oct 12, 2007Comments: Catholics have a responsibility to PROTECT the faith against those who want to treat it like a grocery store - picking and choosing what fits their lifestyle. Catholics MUST DEFEND the youth from being misguided by professors or administration -even if it's a leader in the Church - on a Catholic campus. Students should NEVER have to face anti-Catholic belief on a Catholic campus! They should NEVER have to defend the faith on a Catholic campus. Planned Parenthood goes AGAINST the Catholic Church and anyone who says different is a liar or chooses to be misled. What's sad about this situation -although it's not something new which could indeed be even sadder- is that a Catholic priest is going siding with Planned Parenthood - even some Protestants understand the hurt caused by P.P. You hurt the Church and lead believers down a wrong path when you misinform them on Catholic teaching or try to invite them to side with those who side against the Church.Flag

Please cancel the program to be at Holy cross to be presented by Planned Parenthood and NARAL. To have them is to give a very bad witness to the world and young people in particular. A witness that most definately not Catholic.Flag

Name: Bob Connor on Oct 13, 2007Comments: PLEASE listen, and PLEASE stop this from occurring at Holy Cross College... I am not in favor of these organizations, in general, but I am not asking that they be outlawed - I am simply asking that we do not give a platform for them at what is a CATHOLIC COLLEGE! This is completely against Church teaching and beliefs. I cannot imagine what would possess anyone in charge of organizing, or booking, or allowing facilities to be used to NOT verify that these kinds of organizations are prohibited from presenting. I will pray that our Most Reverend Bishop McManus can intervene here on earth, and that our Lord God and the Holy Spirit can reach Fr. McFarland from heaven above to prevent this travesty from occurring. In my mind, on my lips, and in my heart, I pray this note and my prayers help to stop this. Inviting them to speak only condones their actions. They must be thrilled to think that they have succeeded in bringing some Catholics over to their way of thinking. I will pray for your souls.Flag

Name: Daniel Marshall '62 on Oct 13, 2007Comments: Some things are beyond the pale. For instance, you don't welcome organized crime to hold a seminar on campus! That is not just because organized crime is illegal, but because it represents organized murder and immorality. Nor is this MATP event organized as a dialogue. I do support dialogue with Planned Parenthood and NARAL; but if a dialogue I recommend that the key question raised be: Who gets to decide whether another human being (at any age or state of development) is a person This is the unrecognized central question in the polarization of political and moral discourse on abortion. PP and NARAL have not been neutral, but have built a reputation of promoting abortion. I do not pre-judge a particular office or individuals of the organizations in making that observation. You know that I have written to you before about raising the profile of life concerns, by giving an honorary degree to ex-Jesuit HS teacher Kathy Kelly, a living martyr for the people of Iraq. Opting for the culture of life and compassion would open an area of scholarship now closed, one becoming more important than ever as we enter a "greening" world. I think that Jesuits are too close to power and as such have become hardened to life and compassionate concerns. I think that it would open eyes to stand for a preferential option for life.Flag

I applaud, agree with and support your Bishop's admonishing. Planned Parenthood, NARAL and their likes are among the most evil of entities ever, wolves in sheep's clothing., sugar coating their poisonous lies, deceptions and agenda. Stop this sin and evil now! You are misusing your power and responsibilities to your school and students, setting a disastrous example and precedent in the eyes of all........an ultimate scandal! I PRAY FOR YOU!!!!!!! Urgently! Planned Parenthood and Naral are at the forefront of support for the currnet "culture of death" in our country. This is a matter of fact - not opinion. C S Lewis would call the Holy Cross response to the issue a matter of A"smudge and blur." Please stand up for truth and goodness; please stand up for a sense of integrity. S GalliganFlag

We researched colleges and based on decisions such as this one, our son enrolled in a Catholic College that does not bring in speakers diametrically opposed to the teachings of the Catholic Church. It has never been the ChurchFlag

Name: Michael Heraty on Oct 14, 2007Comments: I think it's a travesty that Fr. McFarland of Holy Cross in Worcester allow Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice to hold their annual Teen Pregnancy conference at the college. Father McFarland should know better. I think he really is misguided. Bishop McManus is correct in telling Father McFarland he should cancel the event. Abortion is the killing of an innocent unborn child. Killing is wrong. It doesn't matter whether the child is born or unborn. The age of the person, child or adult, does not matter. An unborn child is just as important and you or I. Every child has a right to be born. The partial-birth abortion ban was upheld. Thank Goodness. Partial-birth abortion involves finding the baby's legs with forceps; pulling the baby out of the birth canal by its feet and all except the baby's head is out of the canal, therefore the baby hasn't techically been born so it's still legal to kill the baby. Then a hole is inserted into the baby's scull when scissors are jammed in, and a catheter is inserted sucking the baby's brain out of its head, causing the skull to collapse at which time a dead baby is delivered. Abortion is disgusting. It needs to be stopped, and the first step is for Father McFarland and Holy Cross to cancel the NARAL event. It's a travesty to the Church and the faith. Good luck and God bless.Flag

I will no longer support or contribute any monies to Holy Cross if this is the wave of what is happening there. Fr McFarland, at what point did you lose focus Did you forget that you were put in a position of influence for our children who want to learn about Catholic tradition I really think you should step down as President of Holy Cross and let someone who knows what Catholic education is about step up to the plate. In doing so, you will be causing scandal and certainly will be corrupting some of your students. The Devil clearly is urging you in this direction, and you must resist. I pray that God will bless you and create and strengthen a resolve to live by His holy commandments.Flag
