Comments: How is it our responsibility to pay for FSCJ's failure?Flag -

Name: Matthew St. Jean on Mar 6, 2013Comments: When i applied, i was assured that all i had to do was plead my case honestly and my appeal would be judged based upon that, now i am being told that what I submitted was not good enough, and that i owe 1500 - 3000 dollars. This is ludicrous. If a mistake was made, i understand, it happens, humans make mistakes, but do not hold me responsible for your mistakes.Flag

Name: Romero Lee on Mar 6, 2013Comments: I too was awarded my Pell Grant after I completed an appeal to receive it. The school contacted me and said I was approved, but I had to maintain satisfactory progress or higher to continue to receive my Pell Grant. I kept my part of the agreement, passing classes with A's, B's and a few C's. I was also put on the Deans list for the progress I was making. I have just been hit with an Academic Hold saying I needed to pay back the sum of 3800. This isn't right because I did what I was supposed to do and was approved by the school. The students have no control over us getting the Grant approved through the appeal or not. That was totally up to the school. How can they come after the student for money the student never had and for what the school made a mistake by approving? That's not the students fault, but the school. The school should be responsible and there should be laws against trying to take money from the student. I wasn't the one fined for making the error the school was. Plus it’s very clear the school messed up, so why is it the students fault again?Flag

Name: Monica McKenzie on Mar 6, 2013Comments: FSCJ should be liable for their mistakes. I was also affected due to incompetence in handling students' financial aid eligibility. Late notification and lack of communication has caused hardships in completion of programs that would allow students to begin paying back loans. They allowed us to sign up for classes and use book loans in belief financial aid was approved. Late notification and lack of communication from the college has caused hardships for students that thought their was a chance to complete programs for a better tomorrow.Flag

Name: Katie Cowart on Mar 6, 2013Comments: When I went to my mailbox a few days ago the last thing I expected to find was a bill for $2100. My appeal was approved by the college based on a medical diagnosis of severe depression and anxiety. These conditions began after the death of my brother and seven weeks later my father. And now the college is asking for their money back because they messed up. Why exactly am I responsible?Flag

Name: A'shia Myers on Mar 6, 2013Comments: FSCJ, you were a great community college. Becoming a state college has ruined you. You're arrogant and inefficient now. You are ruining student's lives because of your negligence. As adults we learn to take responsibility for our actions and you need to be an adult and fix YOUR mistake. As a student of this school, I can not wait to graduate. I'm so lucky your laziness hasn't caused much harm to my eduation but my younger sister is one those students who you demand they pay back nearly $1700 and then you tell them in her letter to "not call or visit any campus about this matter". You need to take action, take responisbility, and pay for your mistakes, not make others do it for you.Flag
