Name: Rosemarie Monroe on Mar 7, 2013Comments: I was unaware that this affected this many people. I just realized that I was one of these students when they didn't disburse the remaining $1300.00 of my loan this term, and then they explained to me that this was a part of the 2011 fall term appeals process, but back in October of 2012 they advised me that they reduced my money $600.00 from the Summer of 2011 term. So not only did there story change, but they have taken money from me with my appeals being approved for both of those terms.Flag

Comments: I owe the college $5,550.. I am "supposed" to graduate this semester. I have the Pell Grant, not a loan. Which supposedly I should have never received. I trusted these people with my future... Now, I have no clue how I (a single mother, who works full time and goes to school full time) will manage to pay this debt and try to continue schooling. I did NOT make the mistake here, the college approved me for an appeal. An appeal I should not have received, unbeknownst to me. I filled out a simple form stating why I should be approved for an appeal and what caused me to be in the position I was (why I had below Student Academic Progress). I finished the form and was told I would be eligible for the Pell Grant and to go to the FASFA (financial aid) website and to fill out online forms with my income tax return. Never did anyone that assisted me in getting my appeal approved or Pell Grant tell me that I would in two years be paying the college back, had that been the case you better believe I would have much rather put myself in worthwhile debt by taking out loans for a much better college or university. The staff failed to do their jobs correctly, so why should I or anyone else suffer the consequences? We did what we were supposed to do. I never lied or mislead the college about any information. I will not let these people get away with this..Flag -

It took me years to get up enough courage to start school again and they just slapped me in the face and blocked my next attempt, leaving me VERY DISCOURAGED!!Flag

Name: LaShanta Joyner on Mar 7, 2013Comments: I want to sign this petition because I also don't think its fair for the school to come after the students to repay money on behave of their/staff mistakes. My Student Aid Appeal Form specifically says APPROVED and once decision is made it can NOT be reverese, well having me pay this money back is reversing the Approval. Also I don't think it's fair for them to only come after the students the year 2010-11 school year becuase they was audited for that year, what happened to other students from other school years? They don't have to repay?Flag

Name: Chris Kelly on Mar 7, 2013Comments: I just received my letter, which threatens that if I don't pay I cannot enroll and finish my Nursing degree, or get my transcripts to change schools. I have payed for school myself for three years, Pell helped with one semester. My Pell grant was refused because the talented folks in the finance office could not spell my name correctly. I was turned down because they said that "I had not signed up for the draft???" hell I am 48 years old and I signed up for the draft in 1982 when I turned eighteen. I brought them proof, they checked it out with the Federal Govt. and I was awarded help with one semester. How is my appeal have anything to do with FSCJ's Satisfactory Academic Progress policy? SAP = Draft card? Does this make since to anyone? I read that they double checked each and every Grant to insure that we owed the money, how could I possibly owe when I met all requirements and my appeal was based on incorrect info that I straightened out?
