Only 263 students voted in the student referendum on MPIRG's contract with MCSG, and only 144 of those voted for the referendum - that's less than 10% of Macalester's student body. Why?

1) No notice was given to students that this referendum was happening outside of MCSG and MPIRG.

2) The language placed on the referendum question was entirely supportive of the contract and did not provide voters with both sides of the story. It should be no surprise that biased language on the ballot leads to a biased outcome.

3) The MPIRG referendum was hidden on a separate ballot away from the executive board ballot. It's not surprising that less than 300 students voted in the referendum while more than 900 voted in the executive board elections.

If 555 students sign this petition, MPIRG and MCSG will be forced to hold a new election. Let's hold our campus officials and student organizations accountable. It's time to hold a new MPIRG referendum.

I support having MCSG hold a referendum to determine if it should terminate its agreement with MPIRG
