The petition
On Thursday 10th May 2007, we were all unexpectedly told that our AS History Exam - about The German Unification of 1815 - 1870, would now be on Monday 14th May 2007. This of course left history AS students with around 4 days to revise an entire module, this of course is unacceptable.
Most of AS history students have responsibilities within college for other subjects regarding coursework deadlines and other college commitments but also as students majority of us have jobs and outside commitments we had to take in consideration when this unexpected news came along. Many students could not proficiently revise for this up and coming examination, as we were all lead to believe that the exam we were supposed to be entered in for, was for the 8th June 2007. But instead we consequently found out that the COLLEGE had indeed entered us for an A2 exam instead of being entered for the widely known AS exam, as of course we are AS students. This mistake has been caused by the college and the college are responsible for this mistake.
Maria our lecturer is not responsible for this, we all know she is up and down but it is the examinations officer to correct any mistake necessary but also enter us into the correct level of examination. This is one of our rights as student under the code of practise set by the learning skills, government council. As a student we expect the college to be able to get the basics exam entries correct and enter us for exams suitable for our level. This error made by the college has caused mass stress and outrage among the students, it has caused great upset among us all, as we feel that this exam wont show our full potential for the subject. I even myself went to Robin myself 3 weeks previous to this about mistakes on my timetable and he even said why had I been entered for an A2 exam, of course I didn't realise this and Robin directly said to me that this would be sorted out, as a college representative we of course believe their verbal agreements and promises, this of course further angered us all - it makes you wonder how long the college precisely knew of this problem be forming their students.
The college are constantly making these kind of mistakes, for example AS law is an absolute shambles, they haven't provided us with full lecturing since September 2006 and the amount of lecturers we have had to cover lectures has been astronomical, because of their mistakes and their lack of organisation over 95% of the law classes failed their exams and the college even refused to pay for our resists even though it was THEIR fault, we only got free resits when we protested about this...THIS IS NOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO.. We cannot take this , we must stand up and be counted and be heard, otherwise this will continue to happen. As you can see from the message i received below, the college are trying to escape responsibly and push this under the carpet and hoping we would forget it but we CANT. we need to sort this out now and the college need to accept responsibility for these disgraceful mistakes!!!!
This was a message I received from Jamuna when both her and Janieve went to see the head of A-Levels..its a disgrace:-
"guess what? they're trying to blame maria for their fuck up with this whole exam thing. After the exam me jahnavi and wez went to Rhianna (head of A levels) and i said that you'd gone to Robin like 3 weeks ago, and she said it was a possibility that he'd "not realised". She actually admitted it was a college cock up! And get this, she said that the exam office were now submitting our exam entries by computer and that the staff were not all trained!!!! Can you believe that?! She also said she knew about my friend notifying Robin that we all had an exam this Monday!!
So they're trying to blame Maria. I know she's been an up and down teacher for some of us, and she had her moments but I think it's really unfair!! We need to support her, cos it's clearly not her fault, and I think Robin is an idiot. Also they said we need to get over this, stop being annoyed and look forward to our other exam. We can't "dwell in the past". That's bollocks! So, i think we need to stand our ground on this. If you can pass this on to the other history group!! Thanks."

THEY NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY...
THE EXAMINATION OFFICE - NEED TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE
AND ACCEPT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO
US...THEIR STUDENTS!!!
