Please show your support to keep homes, not businesses, on Historic Vernon Street in LaGrange, Georgia. Our City Council will have a public hearing on September 13, 2011 at the LaGrange Municipal Court, 5:30pm. We ask that you attend and show your support against the OIR zoning request that has been proposed by the home owner, in order to sell the home. OIR, standing for Office-Institutional-Residential, would allow for businesses, including but not limited to, Real Estate, Insurance, Medical and Dental Offices, Travel Agencies, Group Homes, and Group Treatment Centers. In addition, the proposed building plan could allow for a building or buildings covering up to 2 acres! The property in question is the current home of Boxwood Acres, more recently known as the Ferrell-Holder Home. This was the original site of the famous Ferrell Gardens. The home was built in the 1800's and resorted in the 1930's by the acclaimed Ivey and Crook and is listed on the National Historic Register. It sits on the same street as the childhood home of Lamar Dodd, the LaGrange College President's Home, former home of Dr. Clark of Clark-Holder Clinic, and the beautiful Callaway Mansion.
