Name: Anonymous on Oct 15, 2007Comments: I am a mother of a felon. I think that it is no-ones bees wax what has happened in the past, present, or future. Who is to say that a felons don't work just as hard as anyone else! That question on job aplications should be removed perm. It just isn't right to see it, nor to have to answer it! Isn't this called discrimination! I have lived in the State of Indiana all of my life (47 years) and in the last 10 years or more it has really disappointed me to live here. It's like the State is dying. Even in the political ring there is bad blood, and when it comes to a person trying to keep their disability (Social Security-thats a damn joke too) I lost mine because of their mistake and I'm not wasting my time trying to get it back) Once you are on Disability you should be able to keep it not have it taken away! GROW UP INDIANA! Let the felons have their dignity and self resepct back! There is such a thing as FORGIVENESS! Turn the other cheek! FORGIVE AND FORGET! The time is now, let everyone be able to get a good job so they won't go back to jail.Flag

Name: Christopher Acevez on Oct 27, 2007Comments: I will earn my Associates degree in Criminal Justice this December (2007), and I will continue on for my Bachelors. I will probably never be able to use these credentials. They mean nothing when you have been convicted of a felony. And they want to know why we find our way back to that lifestyle. I wasnt trying to be difficult when I chose law enforcement, but I was told there is also no future for me in the medical or business fields as well.Flag

Name: Phyllis Carr on Nov 11, 2007Comments: My son has a felony for a nonviolent crime, I am very disturbed that this is going to affect his life for years to come. Maybe some of these individuals would not be doomed to become repeat offenders if they were not forever looked on as "criminals". They do there time, pay their fines and keep paying. They can't support their families. I know they made poor choices but many people make mistakes some just get caught! They need a second chance so they can make it.Flag

Think about all the non-felon high office executives that embezzle money every day from their jobs and never get caught for it! How many tax payers are they hurting and getting away with it!!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 18, 2007Comments: I agree, its difficult to find someone willing to give someone a 2nd chance. If you made a stupid mistake and have paid for it and its been 4 years or more, and have been gainfully employed since the icident , then why is it still an issue when you go to apply else where its discrimination!, you can ask me and if I'm honest with you about what happened then why do you deny me If I lied, you'd find out anyway!Flag

I was hired for these jobs and lied on my app. about being a felon knowing I wouldn't even make it to a interview if I didn't. After my back ground check I got a call saying that they wouldn't hire me after already being hired. If I can't get a job in a basic retail for minimum wage were do I go from here.Flag

However it doesn't affect a person's ability to do the job in many instances. And doesn't always reflect who that person is today.Flag

Name: Pat Ryan on Jan 22, 2008Comments: I am a college instructor in the Indiana prison system, where I've taught for over 16 years. It would sure be nice to see these hard-working students who get their college degree and earn their release get decent jobs. If they cannot because of these laws, they run the risk of recidivism, often simply because they cannot get a job.Flag
