| 589 | giles | babb | TX | I wish the music "industry" would start realizing that many people in their thirties and even forties also still love hip hop but are not being well served at the moment as the "industry" continues to cater to what they think the 16-25 demographic wants to see and hear. I came to the game somewhat late, and have been been listening to Hip Hop on a regular basis only since 1990 (although I always enjoyed it since the very early '80's whenever I would occassionally hear it). Nevertheless, thanks to the internet, Amazon.com, a CD Exchange store with a healthy collection of Old Skool hip hop, as well as the SIRIUS Backspin channel, I've been able to recover many latent memories of songs that I hadn't heard in well over 20 years in some cases, and realize even more than ever why this 40-something "dumb white guy" fell in love with Hip Hop. I can't help but think that even the 16-25 demographic might soon start revolting against some of what's being offered out there, especially since much of what has been out in the second half of 2004 and now is downright juvenile, and "kids" frequently "grow up" and/or move on to something else (how many more songs can anyone stand to hear with Lil' Jon in it??). It's interesting to note that even Nelly perhaps realizes that Hip Hop needs to grow up, and it may be no coincidence that, of the two CD's of his double CD album, the more mature "Suit" is doing better than the more party-oriented "Sweat." Although the two songs to actually get airplay ("Over and Over" and "My Place") on the "Suit" CD are pretty good, some of the others on that CD are examples of the quality and depth of thought and spirit that even the present "mainstream" artists are actually capable of.
