Name: Donna Reist on Mar 11, 2010Comments: Please sign the petition and pass along to other friends and neighbors. The school board needs to know how we feel about our schools as they vote on plans that will be implemented and impact us over the next 9-15 months and beyond! Please also plan to attend the March 23 school board meeting dressed in our school colors, with poster signs, in support of our neighborhood schools.Flag

Name: Mary Baker on Mar 11, 2010Comments: I currently have a 4th and 2nd grader at Highcroft. In a year my 2 children will be on different calendars for 2 years with current school assignments. My older son wants to go to Mills Park Middle where his friends will go and we prefer the traditional calendar. It's not fair to make my younger child switch schools and be pulled away from his friends (and walking to school every morning versus a 7 mile drive) to be on the same schedule. I don't feel like we currently have any good choices. Also, there are so many children who walk to Highcroft, additional traffic as the year round choice poses a true safety issue for our children.Flag

Name: Valerie Pistone on Mar 11, 2010Comments: I think it is important to have some consistancy in both learning and family time. It is unreasonable to think families will be able to handle children on mixed calendars. Financially it would be a major burden 2 sets of camps or after school care, limited family timeFlag

Name: Kay Brody on Mar 11, 2010Comments: Highcroft Dr. has been underutilized as a year round school for the past several school years and the majority of its current families informed the board through a recent survey that they wished to return to a traditional calendar. Morrisville & Turner Creek Elementary Schools (both also under-utilized but previously elective options for year round calendar in this region of the county) are slated to remain year round schools under the revised plan released by the BOE. It makes no fiscal sense to leave 3 schools within a few miles of one another operating on a year round calendar when none has been able to sustain the necessary numbers over the past several years for the county to recognize substantial cost savings. Highcroft Drive should be returned to the calendar it opened with in 2004 - traditional calendar.Flag

Name: Vinayak Ankolkar on Mar 11, 2010Comments: Highcroft is one of first in the wake county to adopt community based school. I would urge the WCPSS to look at the history, data and facts and make a decision based on your own resolution. Please read "Resolution Establishing Board Directive for Community Based School Assignments". HighCroft Drive Elementary should follow Traditional Calender.Flag
