Comments: I lived in Halifax over the summer a few years ago and I'm considering moving there permanently. One of the things I loved about Halifax was the sense of community. I loved how friendly and welcoming everyone was. When people keep hens that sense of community only grows. Although I don't have the time for hobby chickens myself, I would love to live in Halifax next to neighbours who keep hens.

Comments: There are so many good reasons for allowing this, but giving people a sustainable way to provide affordable, healthy food for their family, has got to be number one.

Comments: A robust local food system includes the production of complex/complete proteins. A complete protein (or whole protein) is a source of protein that contains an adequate proportion of all nine of the essential amino acids necessary for the dietary needs of humans. Eggs are #1 as a Triple Bottom Line and sustainable source of complex protein.

Comments: Raising healthy eaters means showing children where real food comes from. Hooray for urban hens and those wise enough to support their existence!!!

Comments: Many cities, much larger than Halifax, have By-laws the allow chickens with guidelines regarding numbers, housing etc. The research has been done. Unless you're going to ban the feeding of all wild birds, there is no valid argument against backyard chickens.

Comments: Chickens are being raised successfully in forward-thinking cities like New York and Seattle. Halifax should move with the progressive cities, and allow citizens to keep hens in town.

Comments: I want to know where my food is coming from. I want my kids to know where there food comes from. I want them to learn about the environment and sustainability. Look to Vancouver, Montreal and MONCTON our rival...they're all more progressive than we are.
