Comments: It seems quite harmless to allow people to keep hens in the city. The least government is the best government; it seems rather pointless to pass laws against things that are no trouble to thers.

Comments: I see no hygienic reason why hens cannot be kept in residential neighbourhoods. They make far less noise than a dog and if properly looked after no more smell, while at the same time creating top notch compost that can be used locally or contributed to the greenbins for community compost use.

Comments: It's ridiculous that people can be fined and harassed by municipal staff for keeping a pet hen on their property. It makes no sense whatsoever. Halifax needs to take some action to rectify this, like so many other cities across North America.

Comments: As a student currently attending a Planning Law course I can see the pros and cons (not to mention the headaches) that would occur all while enabling a Chicken By-law but with the increasing interest by the urban public I think that creating a Chicken By-law could be Haifax's next big thing! Chickens can easily be regulated and can be a gateway to future animal By-laws (avoiding discrimination in accordance with the Canadian Constitution). I think there are a lot of beneficial things to having chickens and I hope the Council of Halifax readdresses both sides of this issue.
