Name: Kate Hobbs on Dec 12, 2012Comments: Unnecessary duplication of the service provided by Sainsbury’s Local. If it has to be a supermarket (in itself very debatable) it should be one that appeals to a different target market than the existing Sainsbury, e.g a Waitrose.Flag

Name: Nicola Green on Dec 12, 2012Comments: I live in Herne Hill and I do not feel the community would be served well by another supermarket. It would impact on the diversity of the area and even threaten local businesses such as the greengrocer and butcher, which are an important part of Herne Hill community. It is difficult for independent shops already and another outpost of a national chain in Herne Hill cannot help. Not to mention that there is already a Tesco Superstore in Brixton, not more than a 10 minute walk away. Furthermore, I feel the community should be fully consulted and not presented with such a dramatic change as a fait accompli but Tesco.Flag

Name: Zoe Lynch on Dec 12, 2012Comments: Why would we want a Tesco express when we have a Sainsbury's local NEXT DOOR ? We should give another company a chance (not Starbucks) to open a retail outlet in Herne Hill that we might actually need. Personally, I cherish the independent shops - you only need to look at the success of London villages like Marylebone High Street or Lambs Conduit Street to see how sensitive handling of retail opprotunities can enhance an area for the residents as well as give a boost to housing prices.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 12, 2012Comments: So many reasons among which:- Traffic chaos, threat to decent ethical existing shops, destroying the character of the neighbourhood, dubious practices concerning treatment of their suppliers in order to keep prices low for consumer. Just DON'T come here please Tesco.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 12, 2012Comments: We already have a Sainsbury's local, so a Tesco's Express next door seems pointless. Many local residents enjoy shopping in the individual shops we have in Herne Hill and many, myself included, would feel that another supermarket store (no matter how small) will ruin the feeling of Herne Hill. No thanks to any more supermarketsFlag

Name: Rebecca French on Dec 12, 2012Comments: My objections are: 1) our independent shops are very important to the local community/economy and are part of Herne Hill's unique character. 2) we already have a Sainsbury's Local - there is no need for another supermarket chain. 3) parking facilities in the area are limited and deliveries to a large chain may affect local residents.Flag

Name: Michael Stapleton on Dec 12, 2012Comments: Hi I do not live in the area but I do trade here and around Herne Hill working with sash windows (small trader). I do object as I have seen how small shops slip into further struggle following a new supermarket, and in due course they stop trading. All prifits go into one coperate tax avoiding pot. I am personally missing fruit and veg with taste, smell and colour. And cheap mass produced wines, yuck. Go on.... get your half grown metric sized green sort life bananas. We all would benifit from a small piece of the pie each, not watching one group of fat cats licking the cream. MichaelFlag

Name: Kathy Yvanovich on Dec 12, 2012Comments: i don't want a Tesco in Herne Hill. No! no! no! I'm happy with the Herne Hill shops - a butcher, bakers, greengrocers and shopkeepers I can talk to, not a stream of changing corporate and temporary staff that look as if they're being watched by their superior (often my experience of supermarket shopping). Anyway, whatever reason, I believe that the heart of Herne Hill will be compromised by yet another Tesco. Sainsburys is enough already. I LIKE shopping in independant shops. My preference.Flag
