| 2004 | John Marshall | I requesting in the names of the NUJ members at the Herald, Herald on Sunday and Evening Times in Glasgow that all major disputes be resolved through negotiations. The members seek an end to the constant downsizing, which impacts their ability to provide a product that their readers have come to appreciate and expect.
As I understand it, the papers' owners Newsquest, despite multi-million pound profits are seeking to save £3m by axing jobs and cutting editorial budgets. When Newsquest bought the titles it promised to invest - instead it is cutting jobs and compromising quality.
I stand in support of the members as their stated intention are to maintain the quality and level of coverage of Scottish issues and opinions.
Profits should be shared with those who helped earn them. I call on Gannett/Newsquest to abide by the assurances they provided to the Competition Commission hearing in 2003 on the transfer of The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times and stop cutting jobs in these titles. |

| 2020 | David Comerford | Instead of retrenching into parochalism and purely local issues (Scotland is not Yorkshire!), there is opportunity for a Glasgow based media group to be expanding into the entire English speaking European area that doesn't want a purely London-centric view of the world. Scottish, Irish, English & Welsh, as well as International, editions of a non-London based paper would be tremendously attractive, especially given the current reality of true and interesting devolution. Such a group could seek to challenge media brands like the Independent and the (formerly Manchester but now definitely London) Guardian. It's online content could become a primary information source for ex-pats worldwide.
Newsquest's stragey seems deeply conservative and unambitious. There'd be political support for an alternative - see Salmond's speech today (8/8/07). |

| 2023 | neil dunkin | May I suggest that Gannett/Newsquest uses a few thousand pounds from its millions in profits to carry out a comprehensive health survey of all its journalists. Given the turmoil through which they have gone over the past three years, I believe the results could be quite worrying. |
| 2024 | George Waldman | I was involved in the newspaper strike in Detroit in the late nineties and still live with the weakened people and papers. Come together or hurt eveyone in the community (and the "bottom line"). |

| 2036 | Anonymous | This once great and respected paper and focus of Scottish life has been systematically run into the ground. Profit in business is nessesary. Greed is entirely different. The Scottish people will be unforgiving of Newsquest. It seems that sad that the rot has set in and seems to be spreading out of control. I for one amongst thousands of readers and Glaswegians am both angry and very sad at this state of affairs. |
